Homosexualité, du rejet au Refuge

Network : Téva
Type : Documentary
Format : 52′
Presented by : Sonia Rolland et Pascal Petit

Summary :

Le Refuge provides shelter for young people aged 18 to 25 who have been rejected by their parents simply because they are homosexual. Every day, the association takes in more than 75 young people in 14 towns across France.

In the wake of the damning report on homophobia, which highlights the unprecedented rise in the number of homophobic acts or words (the number of calls for help received by Le Refuge has increased 10-fold in just a few years), this situation has deeply outraged Sonia Rolland.

The documentary is therefore a ‘carte blanche’ given to the director and actress. She wanted to go out and meet these young people, to understand how they feel, how they deal with their parents’ abandonment and how the Refuge helps them to rebuild their lives. Faced with these young people, Sonia Rolland cannot hide her emotion or her indignation as a committed, tolerant woman and young mother. She goes out to meet these rejected young people, she meets volunteers and professionals from Le Refuge filmed during their day-to-day lives, and she immerses herself in the flats of Le Refuge, day and night, to better understand the suffering of these victims. But she also meets the parents: those who initially rejected their child because he or she was gay, before changing their minds and reconnecting with them. The words of these parents are powerful and useful in giving hope to young gay people who feel rejected and showing them that situations can sometimes be unblocked.
